Artist's Statement
What I remember vividly, growing up in Toronto, were my many excursions into the heart of the city during a building boom. It seemed that the city was a in a kind of perpetual motion, constantly destroying and creating itself, not unlike present day New York.
My love and fascination with this state of continual urban reconfiguration is the foundation of my drawing and painting. The act of creating an image defines, as does a contemporary city, the action of expanding and contracting boundaries endlessly. Where does a space end and another begin? Can a meaning stand apart and defined? These are questions that developed naturally within my environment and became a direction within painting.
