HAIKU REVIEW: Daniel Wiener

HAIKU REVIEW: Daniel Wiener makes very scary objects - scary both in their form (which often suggest raw, metamorphic monsters) and their material (it's called Apoxie Sculpt, and looks like acrylic pigment frozen in air into agitated goops and swirls, as If squirted into the air right outta the tube). The medium allows a great deal of multicolored marbling, a characteristic on which Wiener capitalizes fully, building objects that blister not only with unbridled energy, but embarrassingly sweet and tawdry color. These are aggressive creatures, whether or not they actually sit still; happily, despite initial impressions, they turn out to be quite genial and, often, droll.
