Statement

Juxtapositions of color and pattern, ornamental, decorative.  These are words I use to describe my paintings now.  The patterns and textures which were once beneath the painting surface are now on top and up front and on the 2½” sides, bringing a sculptural element to the work.  The canvas is more than just a canvas.  It is an object I paint.

In my work, I may refer to images in art history as well as to images in The New York Times; images and objects of different cultures as well as to images and objects of everyday life.  Alongside color, pattern and ornament is a renewed interest in representation.
