"Outside In: Eight Maine Photographers"

Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram

October 4, 2005

"Outside In" is one of several shows at Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockport. It displays the work of eight Maine photographers and its aim is to engage us in examining the relationship between the exterior appearances of our homes and neighborhoods and the lives led in them.

It's a lot to ask of a show, but theme or not, it's a very good event. Some of the names in it, such as Wally Mason, Elke Morris and Claire Seidl, have become familiar. Others are new to me.

Seidl continues her involvement with the home, nightfall, reflections people and familiar objects. It is deeply evocative work, emotionally intense and clear of the sentimental.
